GB Senior Men to Face Greece in Home Prep Game

Great Britain’s Senior Men will take on Greece in a summer warm-up game at the Copper Box Arena, on August 19.

Joe Prunty’s side step up their preparations for FIBA EuroBasket 2017 with GB’s campaign in Istanbul, Turkey, beginning on September 1 against Belgium.

GB defeated Luxembourg and Macedonia in home qualifiers last summer at the Olympic Park venue before losing to Hungary en route to achieving a return to the major tournament.

Greece are currently ranked 13th in the world and are expected to have ‘The Greek Freak’ Giannis Antetokounmpo amongst their squad as well as a number of players with vast amounts of experience of playing in Europe.

“Greece is not only one of the top teams in Europe, but one of the top teams in the world,” said Prunty.

“Through the years they have had tremendous talent and have been well coached.

“As always the team will be excited to be back in London playing in front of the home crowd.

“This will be a great game in preparation for EuroBasket and Group D which has 3 of the top 10 teams in the world.”

GB have yet to confirm their full warm-up schedule, but the game with Greece is expected to be their only home game, whilst MVP revealed a trip to Poland is expected for August.

GB Senior Men’s record at the Copper Box:

25/08/15 – GB 63-84 New Zealand
03/10/16 – GB 96-79 Macedonia
07/10/16 – GB 95-72 Luxembourg
10/10/16 – GB 80-88 Hungary

GB were drawn in Group D for EuroBasket 2017 where they will go up against Russia, Serbia, Latvia, Belgium and group hosts, Turkey.
