British Basketball has appointed Stella Kaltsidou as the new Head Coach of the Great Britain Senior Women’s national team.
Kaltsidou, who currently coaches WBC Athinaikos in Greece, brings a wealth of experience from both playing and coaching at elite levels. Most recently in Britain, she led London Lions Women to consecutive WBBL Championship and Betty Codona Trophy doubles during a two-year spell, whilst also capturing the 2024 FIBA EuroCup title.
The Greek coach represented her country for over a decade at senior level and has served as an assistant with Slovenia’s women’s programme since 2021. She’ll link up with the GB squad in November ahead of their FIBA EuroBasket 2027 qualifying campaign, which opens at home to Switzerland on 12 November.
“I’m looking forward to working with this group of players and people and figuring out how together we can reach our top level, performance and culture wise,” Kaltsidou said.
“I want to see this group achieving their maximum potential. We want to build a culture where everyone will feel the National Team as ‘home’, will enjoy being a part of it, ready to fight and willing to put our egos under the needs of the Team. Performance wise we want to be a tough team, aggressive on both ends of the floor, play with speed and high intensity.”
Kaltsidou transitioned into coaching in 2019, working with Maroussi BC, Olympiacos and EFAOZ before her stint with London Lions.
She takes over from Anna Montañana who was appointed in March 2024, and lasted a little over a year, parting ways in July of this year.
