Caledonia Gladiators got off to a perfect start in their FIBA Europe Cup campaign with a 68-80 victory over BC CSU Sibiu, in Romania on Wednesday evening.
Patrick Whelan delivered an MVP performance on his way to 24 points, shooting 8 of 11 from the field and 6 of 7 from behind the line, finishing the game with a 3-point buzzer beater.
Mihailo Jovicic added 20 points for Caledonia, who led by 18 at halftime before holding off a third quarter rally from the hosts.
Kyle Adnam and Monyea Pratt both scored 14 point to lead four players in double digits for CSU Sibiu.
The Gladiators will return to action in the FIBA Europe Cup regular season against Anwil Wloclawek on October 25th at PlaySport Arena at 7.30pm.
