Sheffield Sharks inflict first loss on London Lions in BBL season
Sheffield Sharks became the first team to beat London Lions in the 2022-23 BBL season after recording an 87-81 victory at Ponds Forge, on Friday night.
The Lions had been 7-0 in the league including an opening win in Sheffield, but saw their unbeaten start come to an end – just two days after dropping to 1-2 in EuroCup action in Spain.
Kipper Nichols top scored with 22 points in the win with Saeed Nelson adding 19 points as the Sharks jumped out to a 31-22 start after 10 minutes.
London – who had Ovie Soko join Sam Dekker on the sidelines – trailed by as many as 18 in the contest before setting up a nervy finish with a 9-2 run late in the fourth to close the gap to 81-77.
However, Nichols and Nelson helped close out the win as Sheffield improve to 4-4 in league play.
