GLOUCESTER CITY TO JOIN THE WBBL
Gloucester City Queens are joining the Women’s British Basketball League.
With Sheffield Hatters also rejoining, the new franchise takes the WBBL up to 13 teams for the 2021-22 campaign.
Part of Gloucester Sport, the Gloucester City Queens will play their home games at Oxstalls Arena at Oxstalls Sports Park, which also hosts Super League Netball, in partnership with Aspire Trust.
It could pace the way for Gloucester to also enter the BBL despite a reluctant to admit them into the men’s league at this point.
Jay Marriott, CEO of Gloucester Sport, said: “We are delighted to be accepted into the WBBL and thankful to the board and teams for all their support. As a new franchise, we want to do them proud and bring inspiration to women and girls in the local area looking to progress in the sport. It was important to us that we put the women’s game in the limelight and on its own stage locally. We can’t wait to get started!â€

Women’s sport is deservedly gaining more recognition and the fact we’re able to welcome a new franchise to the League shows the aspiration and growth from all involved.
