London Lions head coach Mark Clark has confirmed that Kennedy Leonard will stay for another two years with the club.
Clark was speaking to Dan Routledge on the Sky Sports coverage at the conclusion of his side’s 92-65 victory over Essex Rebels in which Leonard produced an incredible 22-8-16-8 stat-line.
“She should be on the national team. We’re fortunate – not [just] in the short-term, she’s committed to us for another two years,” Clark said in the post-game interview.
“That’s what the WBBL I think is moving towards having players of Kennedy’s level. Everyone around her gets better when Kennedy is on the floor.”
Leonard has been in scintillating form in her first season in the league, breaking the WBBL’s single-game (21) and single-season (225) assists records.
The extension is in line of the Lions’ ambitions to compete in EuroCup Women – as revealed by MVP’s Mark Woods in a recent interview with Clark.
