Great Britain’s spot at EuroBasket 2022 confirmed

Great Britain’s Senior Men have had their qualification to FIBA EuroBasket 2022 confirmed after Montenegro’s loss to France secured their place.

GB had improved their chances earlier in the day with a thrilling 84-83 victory over Germany to complete a group double over one of next year’s co-hosts.

And, with Montenegro falling to a narrow defeat on home soil in Podgorica, it means they cannot advance with GB holding the crucial head-to-head tie break between the two sides.

GB also qualified for the Final Round of the 2017 edition, but were beaten in all five games in the group phase under previous head coach, Joe Prunty.

The major tournament was postponed from 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic – and is still set to take place across four countries in Germany (Cologne/Berlin), Czech Republic (Prague), Georgia (Tbilisi) and Italy (Milan).
