GIANTS LOAD UP THEIR SATCHELL

Manchester Giants have signed American forward Justin Satchell.

The Florida native will fill the gap left by the abrupt recent departure of Lyle Hexom.

He last featured for Argentinian powerhouse San Lorenzo de Almagra before the league shut down pre-Christmas, featuring in six games – including one in the Americas Champions League.

In two prior seasons in South America, he averaged 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists for Libertadores de Queretaro in Mexico – as the ninth leading scorer in the league – and almost identical numbers for Leones de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, where he was the league’s fourth leading scorer and sixth leading rebounder.

Giants head coach Danny Byrne said: “We have had to move very quickly to get this done, so credit to everyone involved at the club and to Justin and his agent. We have known about him since he came out of college, which helped, and in the meantime he has done a great job of working his way up through the pro ranks in various countries, most recently featuring in the Basketball Champions League Americas.

“He’s 6’8” and has proven his range over his career with a three-point shot that must be respected, which is important for us to space the floor and also to get the most out of the other threats we have. He’s been a go-to scorer for teams in the past and also welcomes physicality, so we think he fits our team well.

“We felt that at this stage in the season he was the guy with the experience and playing style who could come in and fill the gap we have from day one.

“The fact that we have managed to bring in a player who just a few months ago was playing in an overtime Basketball Champions League Americas semi-final is testament to the direction that our club is heading in.”
