DVO LANDS GB RECALL

Devon van Oostrum has been recalled to the Great Britain squad – seven years after his last cap.

The Dutch-based guard, now 28, has been included in a 24-man initial squad for this month’s FIBA EuroBasket 2022 Qualifiers against Germany and France.

The final four Group G games are set to take place in a Covid-19-secure bubble site in Podgorica, Montenegro.

Callum Lawson, Matt Marsh, Aaron Menzies, Patrick Whelan and Deane Williams receive their first call ups to the senior national team.

Cameron Hildreth, Rex Pflueger, Tarik Phillip, and Akwasi Yeboah are all recalled after featuring on November’s initial roster .

A fit-again Kavell Bigby-Williams is also back again in contention with Kyle Johnson, Gareth Murray, Jacob Round, Ovie Soko, Josh Steel, and van Oostrum added to the line-up of the team which kept their qualifying hopes alive with a crucial 74-59 win over Montenegro in November.

The British men, who have now won nine of their last 11 games, will again be overseen by interim head coach Marc Steutel.

Teddy Okereafor, one of eight ever-presents in the squad during this qualifying campaign, will tie the record for most consecutive GB international fixtures played if he features against Germany and France. The current record of 49 consecutive games has stood for 45 years and was set by the late Bill McInnes in 1976.

France lead Group G with a 3-1 record, while Great Britain and Montenegro are tied for second place. Vitally, GB own the head-to-head tiebreaker over Montenegro based on aggregate point difference.

Germany are currently in fourth place. However, they are automatic qualifiers as EuroBasket 2022 hosts. Great Britain must finish ahead of either France or Montenegro in order to qualify for next summer’s EuroBasket finals.

GB play Germany on 20 February and France two days later. The final 12-man rosters will be confirmed ahead of each game.
