KAREEM A CHAMP

Kareem Queeley has joined a select group of Brits by lifting a European trophy.

At the conclusion of a delayed Final Eight, held centrally in Athens, the Great Britain prospect was confined to the bench as his Spanish club, Burgos, stunned AEK Athens 85-74 to win the 2020 Basketball Champions League.

Thad McFadden had a game-high 18 points, and grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists in the final.

19-year-old Queeley, who grew up in Leicester, joined Burgos from Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 but spent part of the season on loan at Burgos’ second team in the lower tier EBA before earning a recall.

Only Andrew Betts, Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Joel Freeland, Steve Hansell, Jo Leedham and the late Robert Archibald have previously brought a European title medal back to the UK.

Milwaukee Bucks star and now two-time NBA MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo watched the contest courtside.
