LASKER HOPES FOR GREAT EIGHT
Newcastle Eagles are bringing back veteran point guard Drew Lasker.
The 37-year-old, who recently became a father again, has signed on for his eighth season in Tyneside and 16th in total in the BBL.
And the return of the evergreen sixth man is a signal of continuity following confirmation that Ian Macleod has been confirmed as head coach on a permanent basis.
“With another season under Mac’s philosophy, I’m expecting the comfort level will be there and to carry the momentum from the Trophy Final,” Lasker said.
“I’m happy for Mac to strip away the interim title. I’m sure it will allow him to focus on the task at hand as opposed to working to keep his job. I’m excited about the roster he’s building as this season he gets an opportunity to build a roster to suit his coaching style.”
Elsewhere, Canadian centre Mo Walker has been brought back on a two-year deal by Leicester Riders.
Walker was all set to make his Riders debut last season but for a season-ending injury which stalled his Leicester debut.
Despite this, Walker will be a familiar face to BBL fans after spending a short stint with the Worcester Wolves three seasons ago in which he averaged 18 points and 9.5 rebounds per outing.
“I’m excited. I feel like I have a chip on my shoulder and something to prove from sitting out last season,” reflected Mo. “I want to make the city of Leicester and the fans proud by continuing to build on the winning culture already established by the Riders in the BBL.”
