RETURN OF THE MAC

Sheffield Sharks have agreed a new one-year deal with Mackey McKnight.

The 27 year-old guard from Houston joined the BBL outfit at the outset of the 2017-18 season and averaged 11.6 pts, 4.8 reb, and 7.0 assists last term.

“It was an easy choice to come back,” he said. “My family and myself are comfortable here, the organisation and the fans have always been great to us. I can’t wait to get back and get to work.

“I still feel like we have unfinished business from last season. We proved we could play on anyone’s level and the season was cut short when we were building momentum. I’m trying to bring that same energy into next season.”

Sharks head coach Atiba Lyons now has two players under contract, having already re-signed long-serving captain Mike Tuck.

He said: “Mackey brings so much leadership and stability to the team. Watching his game and mentality develop over the last 3 seasons has been a pleasure. The addition of McKnight with Tuck is a great starting point for our roster, and we are excited to fill out the rest.”

Elsewhere, Leicester Riders guard Rema Lascelles has retired from professional basketball.
