Great Britain Senior Women have been dealt a blow to their hopes of reaching the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019 after EuroLeague Women star Jo Leedham-Warner was forced to withdraw from this month’s Qualifiers against Portugal and Israel with injury.
The break is precautionary to take rest for flared up plantar fasciitis, as Leedham-Warner took to Twitter to announce her disappointment in not being able to represent GB.
Gutted that I can’t play for GB but in this moment it is important to take the 2 weeks rest to be ready to finish the season strong when we come back. Wishing the team lots of luck and will be following and cheering them on.

“We are obviously disappointed, since Jo is a quality player, has vast experience at the elite level and is a centrepiece of the Women’s programme,” confirmed Performance Director, Mark Clark.
“However, there are two things we have to consider here and that is firstly, it is important that our leading players stay healthy to sustain their careers at the top level.
“Secondly, while it might hurt us, we also have a talented roster and many other players who will hopefully step up and help fill the void.”
Great Britain players will congregate for camp this week ahead of their game against Portugal on Saturday 10 February and Israel on Wednesday 14 February.
