England under-18’s secured a 7th place finish in Division B at the European Championships after beating Georgia 76-71 in Austria on Sunday.
Karl Brown’s side held off a late rally from their opponents to go out on a high with their fourth victory in their Division B campaign.
Alex Roberts top scored with a game-high 24 points while Kyle Carey added 17 points and Carl Wheatle contributed another double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds in the win.
England and Georgia traded 7-0 runs early on before Carey opened his account with a triple to make it 10-9. After Georgia went up by four, Wheatle closed the quarter with four points to make it 18-18 at the end of the first.
A 12-2 run at the start of the second put Georgia ahead in double figures before England hit back with a 10-2 reply to tie the game at 32.
Carey scored five points in quick succession to spark a 7-0 close to the half with England leading 39-34 heading into the interval.
Roberts scored eight points in a 10-0 opener to the second half for England as they built a 15-point lead.
Danny Evans and Andre Arissol both netted 3-pointers and despite the final seven points going to Georgia, England took a 59-49 lead into the final quarter.
A triple from Luke Mitchell kept the lead in double figures before Georgia mounted a fightback with an 8-2 run to close within six points.
Roberts nailed what seemed to be the dagger three with less than two minutes to go to make it 72-63 only for Georgia to make it a four-point game with a 5-0 run.
However, England were able to hold on and claim victory to finish with a 5-4 record in their Euro campaign.
