Manchester Magic battled back to defeat London Greenhouse Pioneers 73-67 in the U18 National Cup Final at the Amaechi Centre in Manchester on Saturday.
Manchester’s Hamad Ali’s 24 points, 12 rebounds and 7 steals was enough to pick up MVP honours, as Magic overturned a thirteen point deficit with a 17-0 run beginning in the final two minutes of the third, holding Pioneers scoreless for the first six and a half minutes of the final period.
“Proud of our guys,” said Manchester Head Coach Aurimas Verbukas, who’s team registered 20 steals, as Pioneers turned the ball over 33 times.
‘Don’t think I personally had a good game but kids took ownership and they did it themselves. We encourage ownership and today we reaped benefits of it.”
Raheem Idris added 16 points, 3 assists and 3 steals for Manchester, while Ola Ayodele stuffed the statsheet with 18 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal and 4 blocked shots on 9/15 shooting in a losing effort for Greenhouse.
Pioneers coach Alan Keane took to twitter after the loss and said:
