Haris Memorial Tournament 2014 Lineups & Schedule Announced

The Haris Memorial Tournament returns to the Amaechi Basketball Centre over this Christmas period, in its ninth year to commemorate former Manchester Magic player Haris Charalambous who tragically passed away in 2006.

Featuring eight teams from across Europe and the USA, it is one of the few international tournaments that occurs on home turf in the British basketball calendar.

“I think it is probably the best line-up we have ever had,” Manchester Magic chief Joe Forber told the Manchester Evening News.

“We have only had one American team in the past and I think these two prep schools will be very good.

“England Under-18s won it last year and they will be very strong again.

“I think there will be a different flavour this year and we’ve tried to strengthen right the way through.”

For the first year in recent memory the Manchester Under-16 squad will not compete, with two teams coming over from the US, Tilton Prep and St Andrews, Spanish side CB Cornella, French side Boulazac Basket, Irish side Sligo plus the England u16 & U18 national teams, and host team Manchester Magic U18s.

England’s under-16s are the only under-16 team, being a late replacement for London Pioneers who were forced to withdraw according to the Manchester Evening News.

The tournament will tip off on Saturday 27th December and finish on the night of Monday 29th.
