Brits Abroad – Week 13 Round-up

A condensed post-Xmas round-up with many players currently enjoying an extended break heading into the new year.

It was another strong week for Joel Freeland and the Portland Trail Blazers (26-7). The Brit hauled down a career-high 17 rebounds against Philadelphia, before recording his first NBA double-double with 10 points and 10 boards against New York, as well a couple of big-time rejections.

Luol Deng stepped up for Miami on Christmas Day with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the Heat to a fesitve victory over his former side, Cleveland. It was Deng’s highest points tally in over a month, and the Brit followed that performance with 16 and 14 points respectively in consecutive defeats to end the week.

Pops Mensah-Bonsu dominated on his debut for AEK Athens (5-6) after scoring 23 points on 10-15 shooting and adding 15 rebounds in an 85-77 win.

Rookie centre Fahro Alihodzic impressed once again for AGOR (7-4) in opposition, shooting 8-11 from the field on his way to a career-high 16 points, to go with 7 rebounds in just 17 minutes of action off the bench. Aris (6-4) closed the gap on the top four with a crushing 91-60 win. GB guard Ogo Adegboye added 2 points and 4 rebounds from the bench.

Myles Hesson had 10 points for Bremerhaven in a narrow 76-74 loss after it was announced that the British forward would remain with the BBL club for the remainder of the season.

Matthew Bryan-Amaning starred for Soles (17-9) in an overtime win on the road after producing a big performance with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Soles then suffered a 93-89 defeat to end the year in fourth place.

Dzaflo Larkai continued his comeback from injury to help Yokohama (5-21) end their losing streak with a victory in their final game of 2014. The Brit had 15 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists in the 66-61 win, a day after losing to the same side by two points, with Larkai adding an 11-12-5 stat-line.

Dan Clark finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals in a 76-65 loss for Fuenlabrada (3-11). In LEB Silver, Aaron Geramipoor contributed 6 points and 7 boards to a 79-59 win for Canarias (4-9) as they continued their improved form of late.

Ovie Soko missed the first of two wins for Boulazac (9-5) before returning in an 87-71 victory with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead his side in the Pro-B encounter.
