Brits Abroad – Week 11 Round-up

Luol Deng helped Miami Heat end their losing run with 23 points in a victory over Phoenix, while the GB forward added a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds in a loss against his former team, Chicago. Joel Freeland scored 6 points in a win over the Spurs, in 15 minutes of action as Robin Lopez suffered a broken hand and is reportedly set to miss around a month.

Soles (15-8) lost ground on the leaders in Mexico after they suffered a home defeat, despite yet another double-double from Matthew Bryan-Amaning – 23 points and 12 rebounds. In Finland, Kouvot (10-6) were beaten 88-76 at home to the league leaders, with Devon van Oostrum scoring 4 points and dishing out 3 assists in the defeat.

Myles Hesson contributed to an 86-66 win for Bremerhaven (5-8) with 7 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists from the bench. In the German Pro-B, Iserlohn (11-1) continued their winning run, with Orlan Jackman flirting with a triple-double after producing a 21-10-7 stat-line along with four steals.

Jules Dang Akodo scored 7 points and had 4 assists in his first win with new side Fraport Skyliners II (6-6) as they enjoyed a crushing 36-point win over a top-4 side. Robert Gilchrist finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds, but Karlsruhe (7-5) were upset on the road in an 86-76 defeat.

Hapoel Jerusalem (9-2) suffered their second straight home defeat after letting a 9-point lead heading into the final quarter slip. Pops Mensah-Bonsu scored 8 points in under 8 minutes of action. The GB forward shot 6-7 from the field on his way to 15 points in an agonising 112-110 overtime loss in EuroCup action prior to the league defeat.

Ashley Hamilton led Cherkasy (8-6) to an important road win with 23 points and 8 rebounds in the 83-74 triumph. Fellow GB senior team-mate Dan Clark had 9 points and 5 rebounds against Laboral Kutxa, as they inflicted a 77-71 defeat on Fuenlabrada (2-9).

Fahro Alihodzic shot 4-6 from the field on his way to an equal team-high 12 points, whilst pulling down 8 rebounds to help AGOR (8-3) to a 70-66 victory in the Greek A-1. Ogo Adegboye and Aris meet the unbeaten Panithanikos, tonight.

Kormend (2-9) fell to another loss in the Hungarian A-Division, despite a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double from Ryan Richards. The San Antonio draftee also had a big double-double in EuroChallenge action, but his display of 25 points and 10 rebounds couldn’t prevent his side falling to a one-point defeat.

Nigel van Oostrum made his debut for Leeuwarden (3-10) and had a season-high 8 points as well as 4 assists in an 87-79 defeat, having left financially troubled Den Helder.

In LEB Gold action, Joe Hart netted a couple of triples in an 8-point cameo to help Penas Huesca (5-7) to their fifth win of the season. A second straight win came for Clinicas Rincon (4-8) with Mo Soluade scoring 15 points, and adding 7 rebounds and 4 steals.

Aaron Geramipoor had 9 points and 6 rebounds as Canarias (2-8) claimed their second win of the season in the LEB Silver. Ben Mockford left Caceres due to personal reasons, and has since joined BBL side Plymouth Raiders.

Boulazac (7-4) enjoyed two victories this past week to climb the Pro-B table in France. Rookie Ovie Soko had 14 points and 7 boards in a convincing 104-62 success, before a 13 & 7 display in the second victory.

In NM1, Rob Marsden had 13 points in an 87-78 loss for Cognac (3-10), while Shane Walker (5pts/8rbs) and Lourdes (9-3) defeated Gareth Murray (13pts/6rbs) and Challans (7-6) 77-67.
