Nigel van Oostrum has left Den Helder and joined Erevidisie rivals Leeuwarden to continue his rookie season as a pro.
Den Helder entered financial difficulty and it is expected they will be withdrawn from the league, with van Oostrum admitting that the club’s bleak future was a major factor in his exit.
The former GB under-20 guard made his debut for his new side at the weekend and posted a season-high of 8 points including a perfect 6-6 from the foul line, whilst also dishing out 4 assists.
“I think I will have a bigger opportunity with my new team, to be more of a leader than a role player,” he said of his move.
Van Oostrum will be in action again on Tuesday as Leeuwarden look to improve upon their current 3-10 record.
