Alex Young Comes up Clutch for UC Irvine in Tournament Championship Game

Alex Young was the hero for UC Irvine after his jump-shot in the final seconds sealed a 72-70 victory over Green Bay in the South Point Hoops Holiday Classic Championship game.

The junior guard, who played for the GB U20s last summer, finished with 18 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds on his way to claiming the Most Outstanding Player award in the Las Vegas weekend tournament.

Young scored his side’s final six points – all in the final 43 seconds – including the game-winner with just 1.7 seconds left on the clock.

“Alex Young is a fierce competitor who I believe in and he did a great job in working the clock at the end,” UCI Head Coach Russell Turner said.

Young is averaging 10.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game so far this season for the 6-5 Anteaters.

GB U20 back-court team-mate Luke Nelson added 4 points and 4 assists in the win having missed a game last week due to an illness.
