Opening day of the Betty Codona Classic saw four teams advance, setting us up with two exciting semi-finals today.
1:00pm: Loughborough v Cardiff
Loughborough booked their place in the inaugural Betty Codona Classic final, with 60-53 win over Cardiff Archers in the semi-final at Nottingham Basketball Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The two teams matched each other blow for blow in the first half, and despite Cardiff holding a 4 point leading heading into the final period, an 18-7 quarter for Loughborough saw them advance.
“It was a very good 40 minutes of basketball, and it really could’ve gone either way down the stretch,” said Matt Harber, Loughborough’s Head Coach.
“Credit to our group who stuck to what we knew and played the way we had discussed. Physically it’s going to be difficult tomorrow, no matter which team progresses. We’ll be ready and compete to the best of our ability.”
Mackenzie Westcott had an 18 point, 11 rebound double double to lead Loughbourough, with Maaja Bratka finishing with 11 and 12.
Emilie Ravn had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead Cardiff.
5:00pm: Sheffield v Nottingham
It will be a Nottingham versus Loughborough final, after the Wildcats dispatched of City of Sheffield Hatters 78-72 in the semi-final on Saturday evening.
Adrian Ritchie went off again for Nottingham, scoring 31 points, as she took her total through two games to 65 points. It was the pivotal third quarter that Nottingham got the cushion they needed, winning the period 22-14.
Despite a comeback from Sheffield in the fourth, it wasn’t enough as Wildcats booked their place in the final.
Samantha Baranowski added 15 for Wildcats, with Jessica Scannell finishing with 13.
Steph Gandy’s 22 points and 11 rebounds were not enough to see Sheffield through.

We have a tiny favour to ask. In 2018 we set out to make Hoopsfix sustainable by building our relationship directly with our readers. Up until now, Hoopsfix has been creating editorials, videos and podcasts to provide sorely missing coverage of the British game and its distinct culture and community.
We have funded Hoopsfix with our freelance work creating basketball media, but sadly that means not only does it fall behind our client’s priorities, but some of those clients are the same organisations we need to report objectively on putting us in a conflicted position.
We want to devote more time to our mission of helping British basketball reach its potential, and produce even more content for the basketball community by making Hoopsfix a sustainable 100% independent business funded directly by our readers through Patreon.
If everyone who enjoys our content chose to support us, our future would be much more secure. For as little as $3 per month, you can support Hoopsfix – and it only takes a minute.
We are tremendously honoured and humbled to have a community of people who value what we do, and we look forward to being at the forefront of the British game as it continues to evolve.
