GB U20s Fall to Netherlands in Game 2

GB U20s vs NetherlandsGreat Britain Under-20s split their two game series with the Netherlands after falling 71-57 in Wales on Sunday.

“Game 2 in our test series was a great challenge for our team and one in which we found a lot of positives,” commented Matt Johnson after the loss.

“We were beaten by a Dutch team that were a little better prepared with their offence and defensive schemes.

“We showed some exciting spirit and bounced back twice when the game could have got away from us. The chemistry of our group has been impressive and we have seen a shift in our mentality towards a much more focussed and steely eyed team.

“From a technical perspective 29 turnovers gave Holland 31 points too easily and stopped us getting our end of break offence firing.

“We are disappointed that we couldn’t take both games on the weekend but also realistic that we are now in a position where we know we can beat an A division team if we commit to playing our style of GB basketball.”

Billie Lucas led the GB U20 Women with a 15 point, 10 rebound double double in just 19 minutes, Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby finished with 11, Shequila Joseph added 10 points and 9 rebounds, whilst Melita Emmanuel-Carr had 10 of her own.

Box score.
