Foot Locker show off their latest kicks and upcoming creps at a special media event in London.
As a basketball producer at the London Olympics, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to shoot around on the court at The O2 several times over the summer. But actually playing in a full court game at the world-famous arena isn’t something I ever thought I’d get to do.
All that changed the other week though, when Foot Locker invited myself and 19 other European-based basketball journalists / bloggers to a special media event there.
First of all, we were treated to a breakdown of all the shoe releases they’ve got coming up over the next few months. From Jordans (the III, the V, the Spizike) to Adidas (the Derrick Rose 3.5) to Nike (Kobe, Durant, Foamposites) to Reebok (Kamikaze, Pump) there’s a LOT of sneakers hitting the shelves at the moment.

Sneaker expert Kish Kash loves his Jordans
What struck me was just how many of them are retros…or, if not retros, then re-hashes of previous releases. We’re going to have a full breakdown of what’s what in the March edition of MVP Magazine, so make sure you stay tuned for that.
L’Equipe’s Yann Ohnona, MVP’s Greg Tanner and Hoopsfix’s Sam Neter — plus some Nike Air Foamposites
Following the briefing it was onto the court for the game. I was on a team coached by former Detroit Pistons Bad Boy Bill Laimbeer — with team mates such as Hoopsfix’s Sam Neter and Yann Ohnona from France’s L’Equipe newspaper. In the words of Charles Barlkey, I played turrrrribly…and my team didn’t do much better! Meanwhile, our rivals (coached by New York Knicks legend John Starks) ran away with it, behind a good point guard from Germany and an athletic tall dude who was getting fast break layups and dunks almost at will.
“Next basket wins,” Laimbeer kept begging the ref, knowing we had no chance of winning.
Don’t reach! Me on the dribble – probably the one time I didn’t mess up!
This dude killed us
John Starks was trash talking Laimbeer the whole game
Anyway, shout out to Foot Locker for a great event. Make sure you ‘Like’ their House of Hoops Facebook page, to be kept up to date with the latest releases. And, like I said, stay tuned for a big sneaker feature in the next issue of MVP.
