CASH BLOW SET TO KILL OFF GB UNDER-20S
Great Britain’s Under-20 teams could be forced to pull out of next summer’s European Championships after UK Sport’s savage funding cuts.
With all financial support removed, MVP has learnt that planned interviews for the national side’s coaching vacancies have been put on hold, with a number of candidates asked to postpone talks until the New Year.
British Basketball are expected to present their appeal to the government agency in January when they will make a case for some backing – and a reversal of UK Sport’s decision to axe their grant completely.
And while the governing body retains enough funds to send their senior sides to next summer’s EuroBaskets, their development line-ups are at risk, performance director Chris Spice confirmed.
“It’ll certainly mean we won’t be able to invest in our youngsters, and that is the biggest disappointment to me, to be honest,” he told Talksport.
“Our Under-20s and Futures programmes will certainly have to go.â€
