GB Women Win Tournoi 4 Nations

Natalie StaffordGreat Britain Women return from Belgium finishing top of the table at the Touroi 4 Nations.

Tom Maher’s side finish the tournament with a 2-1 record, beating Ukraine and Belgium with their only loss coming to Germany on the opening day.

 

After the team’s 95-69 victory over host nation Belgium on Sunday, Maher said:

“We’re not getting too carried away with the win, we’re not at that level to be doing that yet but in these last two games, our positive aggression has jumped to a new level which is great to see.

“We are now showing a new and improved mental toughness which is great and technically, we are still trying to get through things but we have a long way to go and time is on our side.”

Natalie Stafford led GB with 21 points, Jo Leedham had 16 and Julie Page added 13 (box score).

In their opening game, GB suffered a 68-54 defeat at the hands of Germany with Maher admitting after the game, “we weren’t ready”. Jo Leedham led GB with 11 points and 7 boards, whilst Temi Fagbenle continued to impress with 10 points and 7 rebounds (box score).

On Saturday, with exactly 8 weeks to go until the Olympics begins, the team bounced back with an 83-74 win over Ukraine. Natalie Stafford lead the team in scoring with 19 points, whilst Jo Leedham added 13 (box score).

GB now return home to play against Canada next Saturday and Sunday afternoon in Edinburgh as the next stage of their Olympic preparation.
