Reading Rockets Win EBL D1 National Championship

The Reading Rockets added to their silverware from this season on Sunday winning their second championship in three years with an 88-63 victory over Leeds Carnegie in the EBL Division 1 Men’s final at the Amaechi Centre, Manchester.

In a rematch of this year’s National Trophy Final, Reading was once again victorious with Robbier Parker being named MVP after shooting 5/7 from deep and 7/11 overall for 19 points and 5 rebounds, whilst Niko Scott had 10 points and 9 assists, Jon May added 13 points, Matt Guymon 11, and Will Hall had 10.

Leeds’ Zoltan Supola led Carnegie with 22 points, while Adrian Fenyn had a 16 point, 13 rebound double-double.

Speaking to England Basketball after the game, Rockets Head Coach Samit Nuruzade said:

“I am so proud of my players for what they have achieved this season – it has been absolutely fantastic and I am so thrilled it all came together for us this weekend.”

“I think the final showed just how far we have come this season and I really felt everything that we had been working on came together at exactly the right time. We really executed well offensively, arguably the best we have all season, and we also shot the ball really well. Defensively, we continued to do what we have done all year and I think our preparation and desire and hunger at the defensive end really showed through once again today and that is a record I am extremely proud of.”

“For a first season as a senior head coach I am obviously ecstatic with what we have achieved but we will continue to work hard over the summer to educate ourselves and at developing our young players – something I hope will be prominent in this club for many more years to come.”
