Jack Stannard Heads to Italy

Jack Stannard GB U20
Jack Stannard, the 6’2″ 180lbs shooting guard who has been playing for Leeds Carnegie this season, has signed with C2 Italian side Nereto Basket for the remainder of the season.

Stannard, originally from Ashford, Middlesex, and developed through the TASIS programme, told Hoopsfix how he felt it was an opportunity he couldn’t turn down;

“I just felt like it was a great opportunity to try something different, and I feel like I would’ve regretted it had I not gone. I had a lot of help making the decision with my housemates in Leeds (Albert Margai, Adrian Fenyn and Jean Wakanena), and my coach was really supportive aswell.”

The Great Britain U20 said there are clear differences between the style of play in Italy and the UK, but is looking forward to the challenge:

“I’ve already had a few training sessions, and while the standard overall is similar to what I’ve played in England, it’s a completely different style of basketball, and will take some getting used to, so I’m just looking forward to the challenge of something new!”

Nereto Basket currently stand 2-15 and are hoping Stannard will bring some much needed play making skills to the point guard position. Stannard, known more for his shooting ability than his point guard skills is relishing the challenge and is focused on improving his skills to be able to run the point efficiently:

“The coach wants me to be the playmaker and to take control on the court, which is perfect for me as that’s what i wanted to work on coming here. They’ve had a pretty bad season so far, so I think hes also looking for someone to make a difference, which hopefully I’ll be able to do in one way or another!”

Hoopsfix wants to wish Jack all the best for the remainder of the season!
