John Stewart England Basketball
Following their Loughborough training camp, Head Coach Steve Bucknall has cut the initial England U18 Squad list down from 32 to 24. Bucknall has also named the 12 man roster to take part in the Haris Memorial Tournament in Manchester over Christmas, perhaps an indication of those likely to make the final roster for the European Championships next summer.

The 24 man squad is as follows;

Jamie Battish (Australia)
Jesse Chuku (USA)
Omari Coates (Lewisham Thunder)
Jack Crook (Manchester Magic)
Jordan Culley (Reading Rockets)
Simeon Espirit (BA London Leopards)
Rowell Graham (Lewisham Thunder)
Joshua Guddemi (Derby Trailblazers)
Joe Hart (Blair Academy, USA)
Dylan Johns (Majadahonda, Spain)
Josh McGinn (Manchester Magic)
Dominic Norton (Barking Abbey)
Mark Schroeder (Taunton Tigers)
Elliot Sentance (Leicester Warriors)
Jamal Smikle (London Spartans)
John Stewart (Sheffield Junior Sharks)
Christopher Tawiah (MK Lions)
Raphell Thomas-Edwards (Leicester Warriors)
Harrison Turner (Taunton Tigers)
Devon Van Oostrum (Caja Laboral, Spain)
Josh Ward-Hibbert (Derby Trailblazers)
Zak Wells (Barking Abbey)
Skyler White (USA)
Ross Wilson (Newcastle Eagles)

Of these 24, the 12 named to the roster for the Haris Memorial Tournament is as follows;

Jamie Battish
Simeon Espirit
Joe Hart
Dylan Johns
Dominic Norton
Elliot Sentance
Jamal Smikle
John Stewart
Josh Ward-Hibbert
Zak Wells
Skyler White
Ross Wilson

EDIT 28/12/10
The Haris Tournament roster is now different to the one initially announced and is as follows;

Jamie Battish
Simeon Espirit
Josh Guddemi
Joe Hart
Dylan Johns
Dominic Norton
Elliott Sentance
Jamal Smikle
John Stewart
Raphell Thomas-Edwards
Harry Turner
Joshua Ward-Hibbert
Zak Wells
Skyler White

    Hi,
    I was just wondering how players are chosen to represent England. I know a few players that I believe could play at that higher level, so what are the rules?etc.
    Could you please get back to me,
    thanks,
    Dominic

    “perhaps an indication of those likely to make the final roster for the European Championships next summer.”

    Dangerous to speculate. Of that 12, 5 are not even in the Country and the only opportunity for the selectors to witness their skills is at Christmas when they are presumably home to visit family.

    Any reason why Devon hasn’t been selected in that 12?

      I would guess committments with his Spanish team – though he did play last year. Shame he won’t be making an appearance.

    Some of them in the 24 will also be playing for their club during the Haris and so wouldn’t be chosen for the final 12

    I cannot believe John Gould has been cut from the squad !!
    By referring to the EB Stats for Mens Division 3, where John plays for Manchester Magic 2, he is listed as follows;
    Scoring leaders 19.57 PPG (4th)
    3 Point % leaders 55.17% (3rd)
    Free Throw % leaders 82.14% (5th)
    No one else has three entries in the top five.
    The above stats were as of 10.12.10 – Magic 2 have just won this afternoon with John as the games top scorer and with the following stats;
    15pts 6reb & 3 ass. This was with 100% shooting from outside and the free throw line.
    And, yes to repeat myself, this was in the MEN’s league !!!!

    Any reason why Chris Tawiah hasn’t been selected in that 12?

    Sam
    Hear there are some changes to the players attending – is it possible for you to list them al ?.
    Any reason why it’s not as the original list ?
    Hope you can update regularly as no live stats it seems so we are relying on you !!
    Keep up the great work
