England U16 Women Finish 4th
The England U16’s finished their European Championships with a 52-78 loss at the hands of Portugal, placing them fourth overall in the Division B European Championships.
The Portuguese team broke out to an early lead late in the first quarter, however England halted their scoring in the second to close the gap to just one point at halftime. After an even third quarter, England were down by three at the start of the final period, however Portugal exploded in the fourth to quickly put the game out of reach, winning the quarter 27-6 and taking the bronze medal.
Shequila Joseph produced a good final game with 25 points and seven rebounds whilst Leah McDerment was the only other English player to total double figures in scoring as she added 13 points to her 2 steals and 3 assists. Portugal’s Mafalda Barros led her team with 25 points. Full statistics from the game are available here.
