Abdul Sabour Ahmed Signs To University of Oklahoma

Abdi Ahmed

Abdi Ahmed is a Sooner!

London product 6’10, 215lb Abdul (Abdi) Sabour Ahmed, who has been playing at Canarias Basketball Academy this past season has signed to NCAA Division 1 school University of Oklahoma.

Head Coach Jeff Capel, talking about the addition of Ahmed who averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game this season said:

“Abdi is an active big man with good skills who plays extremely hard. He has a great work ethic and a strong desire to become a great player. Abdi has improved immensely under Coach Rob Orellana over the past year. Rob and his staff run a vigorous program that I believe has prepared Abdi well for success at our level. He is a quality young man who will be an asset to our program on and off the court.”

Rob Orellana of CBA added

“In Abdi Ahmed, Oklahoma is getting a post player who is capable of shooting the ball to 19 feet and has a very good back-to-the-basket game. He is a tremendously hard worker who plays the game the right way. He is a player whose best days of basketball are ahead of him.”

I saw Abdi play a couple of times last summer, at Future Stars and a couple of the Midnight Madness runs (and named him one of my Top 20 Under 18s of Midnight Madness 2009) and by the looks of things he has only developed further over the past year. Definitely has the skills to do well at this level and I look forward to following his progress. Hoopsfix wants to wish Abdi all the best with his NCAA basketball career!

University of Oklahoma Sooners
compete in the Big 12 conference against the likes of Kansas, Texas and Baylor.
