No Standouts, Brits in the NCAA Recap 26/02/10

We are coming towards the end of the regular season in college basketball, normally means some of the bench players (on losing teams) will get a few more minutes, will be interesting to see how it pans out. There were 5 Brits in action last night, check em out…

Ben MockfordBen Mockford (6′2, 170lbs, G, Freshman, Shoreham-by-Sea) Iona Gaels
Fairfield defeated Iona 71-54 Friday night to determine sole possession of second place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Ben Mockford registered  5 minutes off the bench, going 0/1 from three point land to remain scoreless and adding 1 turnover.

Iona Gaels are now 20-9 (11-6 MAAC).

Justin Robinson Rider BroncsJustin Robinson (6′2, 190lbs, G, Junior, London) Rider Broncs
In what would be considered a relatively decent game for the majority of other Brits in NCAA Division 1, for Justin Robinson he struggled. In 31 minutes, he finished with 5 points (2/7 shooting), 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in Rider’s 80-54 blowout loss to Siena last night.

The Broncs are now 15-15 (8-9 MAAC).


Glen Izevbigie of Savannah State TigersGlen Izevbigie (6′10, 230lbs, C, Senior, London) Savannah State Tigers
In what was Glen Izevbigie’s last game of NCAA Division 1 ball, Savannah State ended its season with a 94-68 rout of Carver Bible College on Friday night. Izevbigie got the starting role, finishing with 4 minutes and going scoreless on 0/1 shooting but adding 1 steal.

The Tigers finished up 11-15 (8-3).

Paul GuedePaul Guede (6′5, 205lbs, G/F, Junior, London) Portland State Vikings
Portland State broke a 5 game losing streak to cruise to a 98-63 victory over Idaho State on Friday night, securing a place in the league’s post-season tournament. Paul Guede, in his regular starting role, finished with 6 points (2/3 field goals, 1/3 at the line), 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals in 25 minutes of playing time.

The Vikings are now 11-17 (6-9 Big Sky).

Shane WalkerShane Walker (6′10, 211lbs, F, Sophomore, Northampton) Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds
Canisius defeated Loyola (Md.) 74-62 last night. Walker, who came off the bench, finished with 4 points (2/5 from the field), 4 rebounds and a blocked shot in 25 minutes.

The Greyhounds are now 12-16 (5-12)
