The GB Senior Women’s hopes of advancing at EuroBasket Women were dealt a big blow after suffering a 66-75 defeat at the hands of Sweden on Friday afternoon.
Despite a stronger start than in their opener against Spain, Sweden dominated the second and third quarters to take control and held off GB the rest of the way.
“I think we can be disappointed,” GB’s Holly Winterburn said after.
“We’ve played Sweden three times now, and we’ve lost all three times, kind of in the same way, too.
“As players, we need to do a much better job of adjusting and learning how to win games. But I think you can’t fault our effort, whether that’s the start of training camp to now, every single day, every single player has put in an immense amount of effort.
“So, we can be disappointed, but at the same time, we’re on the first step of our journey, we will learn from it and grow.”
Holly Winterburn led GB in scoring with 19 along with nine rebounds and seven assists, whilst Temi Fagbenle had 11.
For Sweden, Klara Lundquist led all scorers with 20, whilst veteran Frida Eldebrink put up 13.
GB can still qualify for the quarter-finals if Spain beat Sweden and they can beat Germany by 11 points or more on Sunday.
