London Lions hand Besiktas Istanbul first home loss in EuroCup

London Lions handed Besiktas Istanbul their first home loss of the season, 80-83, in BKT EuroCup regular season action on Wednesday evening in Istanbul.

In an electric atmosphere, the Lions were able to hold on to victory despite a 8-0 run from Besiktas inside the last two minute of the game. Leyton Hammonds missed the opportunity to send the game to OT at the buzzer for Besiktas.

Gabe Olaseni delivered once again an impressive performance as he led London Lions with 24 points, shooting 10 of 15 from the field. The Lions remain unbeatable on the road (3-0) as they improved to 5-2.

“The crowd was amazing”, Player of the Game Matthew Morgan said.

“But we stayed together, we played a very good game and hopefully we can build on this and keep winning.”

Morgan scored 17 points for London, adding 8 rebounds and 7 assists to his tally.

Jonah Mathews and Matthew Mitchell both led Besiktas with 19 points. Angel Delgado registered a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, grabbing 8 offensive rebounds. Three Besiktas players scored in double figures.

London Lions will be back in action in the BKT EuroCup against Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana at home, at the Copper Box Arena on November 22nd at 7.30pm.
