GB Senior Women suffer tough defeat to Sweden

Great Britain Senior Women fell 62-64 at the hands of Sweden in their EuroBasket 2025 Qualifier on Thursday evening at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester.

An improbable three-pointer from Holly Winterburn with nine seconds remaining pulled GB back to within three before they opted not to foul on the final possession, presumably so the final deficit would not be larger in a qualification system where points differential matters.

Temi Fagbenle had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for GB, as Winterburn had 18 points and seven assists as the only other player in double figures. Savannah Wilkinson finished with eight points and nine rebounds.

Sweden were led by 18 points and 10 rebounds from lightning-quick point guard Klara Lundquist, as the visitors dominated the glass with 21 offensive rebounds for 20 second chance points.
