BBL Week 10 Headlines: Sharks on the rise; tough week for Flyers

There was more movement in the British Basketball League standings on Week 10 with contrasting fortunes for some of the leading teams.

Sheffield Sharks climbed into the top three, while Bristol Flyers suffered a double-losing weekend and Leicester Riders’ recent troubles continued.

Sharks keep Riders sliding

Sheffield Sharks improved to 8-6 to climb into third spot as they opened the week by beating Leicester Riders 91-84. The hosts were led by 22 points from Devearl Ramsey to inflict another loss on the Riders, who responded with a roster shake up as Xavier Pinson and Caleb Asberry followed the departed Braelen Bridges in leaving the club.

Giants, Scorchers inflict double pain on Bristol

Two of the bottom three both defeated third-placed Bristol over the weekend. Manchester claimed their third success with a 68-74 success on the road on Friday night, recovering from a 17-point deficit as Nick Lewis scored 23 points.

Surrey then recorded an 82-73 triumph less than 24 hours later having raced out of the blocks to lead 26-13 with Jordan Hunt top scoring with 22 points off the bench. The Flyers also had 22 points from Trejon Jacob as they fell to 8-7.

Eagles secure win in Scotland

Newcastle Eagles got back to .500 as they completed a weekend double with an impressive 73-82 on the road against Caledonia Gladiators. The visitors found themselves trailing 29-18 after 10 minutes, but hit back through the middle periods to take the win. Jordan Johnson had 24 points.

Elsewhere, London moved to 14-1 with an 84-92 win away at Manchester with Matt Morgan firing in his latest big points haul with 32, while Lewis had 33 points in defeat.

Newcastle had started their week with a 98-82 victory over bottom side Plymouth City Patriots behind 24 points and 13 assists from Johnson. Also, Cheshire Phoenix eased past Surrey 100-80 on Sunday.
