Serbia won 66-60 to end GB Senior Women’s Quarter-Final hopes at Eurobasket Women in Slovenia on Tuesday evening.
It means the 2023 EuroBasket campaign is over for GB, as they finish 1-3 but remained competitive throughout while picking up their only win over hosts Slovenia in the opener.
With the loss, any hope of qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics has also been snuffed out.
As has been a familiar tale, GB fought back from as many as eight down to pull within four in the dying minutes but weren’t unable to get over the hump.
“Serbia is a big name in basketball and I thought we fought really hard,” GB’s Savannah Wilkinson said.
“We were underdogs, I don’t think Serbia thought we’d be with them the whole game so I’m really proud of my teammates, proud of our prep.
“It obviously wasn’t our day which was disappointing, but we’ll be back.”
Temi Fagbenle continued her strong individual performance with a 20-point outing, while Holly Winterburn added 13 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Kristine Anigwe had another double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
