France hold off GB at Eurobasket

Temi Fagbenle GB vs France

Great Britain Senior Women pushed France right to the end before falling 63-57 on Friday at Eurobasket in Slovenia.

A slow start for GB saw them chasing from behind as many as double digits but kept the pressure on the powerhouse until the final buzzer.

Temi Fagbenle led GB with 20 points and eight boards, but France had too much collectively.

Sydney Wallace was also in double figures for scoring with 17, and yesterday’s Player of the Game Kristine Anigwe contributed seven points and 11 rebounds.

Mamignan Toure stood out with 15 points for the winning side.

“It was a hard fought game on both sides,” Fagbenle said after the game.

“Obviously France is a great team, we lost to them by quite a lot before in the pre-tournament games so this was an improvement but we’ve seen our ability to fight with the best and you know, it could have gone either way if we’d really dug deep and done the intangibles.

“It really showed why they’re one of the best teams in the world with that win on their side today.”

GB now take on Germany on Sunday to round out the first group phase.
