Solent Kestrels clinch WNBL D1 regular season title

Solent Kestrels have clinched the WNBL Division 1 title in style with a win on the road against Worcester Wolves.

The 56-82 triumph gives the Kestrels an unassailable lead at the top with a game to spare having secured the head-to-head over Thames Valley Cavaliers.

Solent improve to 18-3 to seal their first regular season title in D1 since the 2016-17 season when they finished 19-1 alongside CoLA.

Faye Endean top scored with 24 points along with seven rebounds and six assists, while Megan Dorney posted a big double-double of 22 points and 16 rebounds.

Solent had eased to a 60-101 victory on the road at Loughborough, last week, as Yassin Belle-Mbaye led five players in double figures with 18 points, before losing to Thames Valley which extended the title race for another week.

However, Thames Valley dropped to 18-4 in their final game earlier on Saturday with a narrow 72-70 loss at Reading Rockets as they had pushed hard to win their first league title having previously celebrated a maiden WNBL Cup success in January.

The Kestrels close their regular season campaign next week away at Reading ahead of the start of the playoffs.
