Barking Abbey re-claim EABL title

Barking Abbey EABL 2023 Champions

Barking Abbey were crowned 2023 EABL Champions after defeating Myerscough 75-60 in the final on Wednesday in Manchester.

It’s a return to the top for the team from East London, making it their fifth EABL title.

Moziah King-Danchie was named MVP, finishing with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists, while Nedas Cholevinskas led the scoring with 17 points, and Ignas Juskevicius had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

“I’m proud of our team,” BA Head Coach James Vear said after the game.

“We didn’t play great today, but we hit big shots when we needed to and came up with stops when we needed to so really proud of the guys and proud of Barking Abbey as a programme.”

A back and forth first half saw the two teams unable to create separation before a 12-2 start to the third period sparked by Cholevinskas allowed BA to pull away and cruise the rest of the way.

“We’ve said to the guys our identity is on the defensive end,” Vear added. “And to hold such a talented team as Myerscough to 60 points shows that’s what we did today and held their best players under their season averages.”

Dayvantia Campbell-Deeble led Myerscough with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Daniel Azancot added 11.

Box score.
