London Lions have continued their historic season in the EuroCup with a 83-66 win over Veolia Towers Hamburg to secure their playoff spot on Wednesday evening at the Copper Box Arena.
The game saw a slow start from both teams before Lions reeled off a 10-0 run to start the second period to seize control and lead the rest of the way, leading by as many as 14.
With Ovie Soko out due to a ‘violation of team rules’, Sam Dekker continued his strong play in the EuroCup with a 15 point, 7 rebound, 4 assist outing, with ample support from Kosta Koufos with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Luke Nelson and Miye Oni added 14 each.
“I was pleased with our overall effort,” Lions Head Coach Ryan Schmidt said after the game. “For me the thing that stands out are the contributions from the entire team. That’s something we’ve been struggling with in this competition, especially as of late, so we made some adjustments to our rotation.”
It was another convincing win for London against the team from Germany, after defeating them by 28 in their first meeting in November.
Hamburg – who sit 15th out of 18 teams in the German domestic BBL – were led by 14 points from Yoeli Childs.
Lions are now 6-8 in the competition and will travel to Poland in a month following the FIBA international window to face Slask Wroclaw on March 8.
Official attendance for the game was announced at 3,868.
