London Lions EuroCup win streak ended in Turkey

London Lions battled valiantly but ultimately lost their EuroCup, Group B clash 102-74 to Turk Telekom in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday night.

It was a bringing down to earth for the Lions who had been on a three-game win streak in the competition and Head Coach Ryan Schmidt did not mince his words after the game.

“We didn’t compete tonight,” he said. “Credit to them, that’s a really good team, but we didn’t compete. That’s embarrassing.”

This victory advanced Turk Telekom to 6-2 and atop of Group B, whereas London saw its three-game winning run come to an end as it dropped to 4-4 in seventh place in the group.

For London, Sam Dekker and Kosta Koufos were the team’s leading scorers with 20 and 13 points, respectively, while both also grabbed 7 rebounds.

Nathan Sestina led the home side with 20 points and Jerian Grant added 18. Notably, Tyrique Jones had 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Lions will now take on Paris on Wednesday, 21 December, at the Copper Box.

With the top eight teams advancing to the knockout stages. Every one of their remaining 12 games now becomes crucial to secure qualification.
