Monday’s World Cup qualifier between Great Britain’s men and Belarus in Newcastle is off, FIBA confirmed.
In a statement, the governing body said: “The decision is based on the evaluation of the current security situation.
“FIBA is closely monitoring the security situation in Europe, as players’ and officials’ safety remain FIBA’s primary concern.”
Netherlands’ qualifier with Russia was also postponed. Both fixtures are expected to be re-arranged later this year.
Interim BBF Chair Toni Minichiello said: “We thank FIBA for all their help and for understanding our concerns about travelling to Minsk. I would also wish to take the opportunity thank the BBF board, GB team staff and players for coming together and presenting a unified position.
“The safety of our players and staff are and will always be our primary focus.”
It comes 24 hours after FIBA backed down and officially removed GB’s obligation to visit Minsk to face Belarus, whose leaders have been deemed complicit in Russia’s attack on Ukraine in recent days.
A number of leading groups, including Global Athlete, have called for the Belarussians to face the same sporting sanctions as the Russians amid widespread condemnations of the countries.
Earlier on Friday, Greece edged Turkey 72-71 to move into top spot in GB’s group.
