Surrey Scorchers have captured Rashad Hassan one a one-year deal.
The veteran forward is the first signing of Creon Raftopoulos’ roster ahead of the new season.
Hassan, 30, averaged 18.5 points per game for the Plymouth Raiders last term,
The former London Lions and Leicester Riders star was also the league’s leading scorer in the 2018-19 campaign, pouring in 20.5 points per game.
“I have always admired the Surrey Scorchers as an organisation and I’m thrilled to be a part of the Scorchers community,” the American said.
“I can’t wait to get this season started and make this one to remember.â€
Raftopoulos added: “The signing of Rashad highlights the direction that we are trying to take the club in by looking to get some experienced players on our roster.
“He wanted to be with us, and we wanted somebody that knows the league.
“I’m over the moon as a coach to have a talent like him, and hopefully things work out how we both want them to.
“We know from last season that defence has to be something we need to focus on.
“Having a veteran group that understand the importance of defence is crucial, and I’m hoping it will start with him as one of our big men – being the guy that can ignite our defence.â€
Elsewhere, American guard Lamarr Kimble has signed for Worcester Wolves out of the University of Louisville.

We have a tiny favour to ask. In 2018 we set out to make Hoopsfix sustainable by building our relationship directly with our readers. Up until now, Hoopsfix has been creating editorials, videos and podcasts to provide sorely missing coverage of the British game and its distinct culture and community.
We have funded Hoopsfix with our freelance work creating basketball media, but sadly that means not only does it fall behind our client’s priorities, but some of those clients are the same organisations we need to report objectively on putting us in a conflicted position.
We want to devote more time to our mission of helping British basketball reach its potential, and produce even more content for the basketball community by making Hoopsfix a sustainable 100% independent business funded directly by our readers through Patreon.
If everyone who enjoys our content chose to support us, our future would be much more secure. For as little as $3 per month, you can support Hoopsfix – and it only takes a minute.
We are tremendously honoured and humbled to have a community of people who value what we do, and we look forward to being at the forefront of the British game as it continues to evolve.
