Tony Garbelotto to Lead Scotland at Commonwealth Games

Tony Garbelotto has been appointed as the new Scotland Senior Men’s Head Coach ahead of next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The former GB assistant has taken the reigns at Glasgow Rocks in a return to the BBL with further coaching experience in Iceland and Vietnam.

“It is a great honour to be selected as Head Coach of the National team of Scotland,” said Garbelotto.

“There is a strong relationship between the Rocks and basketballscotland and I appreciate the trust that has being put into me by both organisations.

“This is a golden generation for Scottish basketball and I genuinely believe that the team can go to Australia and be competitive with some of the top nations in the world.”

basketballscotland CEO, Kevin Pringle added: “Tony has a wealth of coaching experience to bring to this role with the Men’s National Team which is exciting for us as the governing body and for the players involved in the programme.

“Our ongoing partnership with the Glasgow Rocks has made this appointment possible and will allow Scotland’s top players to receive consistent coaching between now and the Games in April of next year.”

Garbelotto takes up his role with immediate effect in the build-up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games which will take place in Gold Coast, Australia.

Scotland have been drawn to face England in the pool stage of the competition.
