HESSON, VAN OOSTRUM SIDELINED

Two of Great Britain’s best young talents are in danger of missing this summer’s EuroBasket.

Myles Hesson and Devon van Oostrum have both suffered season-ending injuries within days of one another while playing overseas.

Hesson, currently at French Pro A club Gravelines, has undergone surgery on his tibia with a usual recovery time of up to four months, putting him in a race to be fit for September’s showpiece in Istanbul.

“I’m sad to announce that I will miss the remainder of the season,” Hesson said. “I have broken my shin bone. Surgery went well so now I’m on the road to recovery. I’m a firm believer in the saying “that what doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger” I will return better than ever.”

Van Oostrum’s brief spell at Macedonian team MZT Skopje is over with the nomadic guard confirming an ACL tear, an injury which will require long-term rehabilitation.

Meanwhile MVP has learnt that GB are set to travel to Poland in late August for friendlies with the hosts, Hungary and Israel before heading to EuroBasket.

No home warm-ups have yet been arranged for what will be coach Joe Prunty’s final international campaign.
