Sol Rolls-Tyson (’94) Signs with University of North Dakota

Birmingham’s Sol Rolls-Tyson has signed with NCAA Division 1 school University of North Dakota for the 2016-17 season.

The 1994 born Rolls-Tyson has just completed his Sophomore year at USU Eastern, following his Freshman year at Cleveland State.

“They (North Dakota) had a good season in the Big Sky Conference and the coaching staff were positive and forward thinking from the get go,” Rolls-Tyson said to Hoopsfix.

“(I’m looking forward to) the atmosphere, the professionalism and the seriousness of the game, along with seeing what impact I can have at that level.”

The younger brother of former GB U20 Josh Rolls-Tyson, Sol averaged 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game on 50.8% shooting this season.

The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 6.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in his Freshman season at Cleveland State Community College.

“Solomon plays with such urgency on the floor. He doesn’t take plays off on either side of the basketball,” University of North Dakota head men’s basketball coach Brian Jones said. “His ability to make plays with his legs will allow him to be very good in our system. With the addition of Jafar and Solomon our overall team speed, athleticism and versatilely continues to improve.”

Rolls-Tyson, who played Birmingham Mets before heading overseas, also received interest from Montana state, Texas Rio grand valley, Charleston university, Southern Arkasas university and Arkansas tech university.
