GB U20 Women Narrowly Beaten by Sweden

Great Britain are yet to find a first taste of success at the U20 European Championship Women Division B after losing 61-56 to Sweden in an exciting match-up in Podgorica.

In a highly competitive tussle, GB produced a massive 20 point final quarter as they came storming back from a double-digit deficit to almost snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

The game had been tied 29-29 at the break after an entertaining first twenty minutes, but Sweden took control with a powerful third quarter.

They moved 45-36 in front as they locked GB down to just seven points, as well as exploiting their talent on the fast break at the other end of the court via a basket by Hannah Peacock.

However, GB came roaring back and made it a one-shot game at 49-46 early in the fourth quarter, but Sweden scored the next seven points of the contest to seemingly kill off hopes of a successful salvage mission.

Yet GB valiantly launched another rescue mission and set up a nervy finale as Sadie Russell made it 58-56 with just over 60 seconds remaining, before Sweden made the game safe from the free-throw line.

Hannah Peacock stood out with 12 points and five rebounds.
