Josh McSwiggan Commits to University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP)

Loughborough Student Riders and Charnwood College’s Josh McSwiggan has committed to NCAA Division 1 school University of Texas at El Paso for the 2015-16 season.

The 6’7″ wing, who was in the GB U20 initial squad last year before withdrawing through injury, is averaging 19.3 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.9 assists in the EABL this season, while contributing 9.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in Division 2.

“I chose UTEP because I liked the overall program, I liked the coaching staff and I feel as a team I would fit in with them well, the campus and the academics looked great to get myself a degree and the area is a very friendly environment,” the 1995 born said while talking to Hoopsfix about his decision.

“I’m looking forward to playing at a higher level, being pushed to then hopefully going onto a professional route. I’m also excited to start off a new education in the USA and hopefully exploring America through basketball.”


UTEP who compete in Conference USA, finished with a 22-11 record overall this season (13-5 in C-USA) while making its first visit to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) since 2011.

“I see myself contributing to the team whenever and wherever I can on the floor,” McSwiggan, who has suited up in two BBL games this season for the Riders, added. “From my versatility on defence to knocking down shots and using my athleticism on the offensive end.”

McSwiggan also received interest from the likes of Oregon State, California State Fullerton, Stoney Brook and North Dakota State.
