GB U20s Split Games in Spanish Tournament

The Great Britain Under-20s split their two games in Spain, losing heavily in their opener to the hosts before bouncing back with a 63-52 victory over Belarus the next day.

After their flight being cancelled due to French air strikes (see picture above, assistant Coach James Vear doing walk throughs at a hotel they were staying in in Brussels!), the squad missed what was meant to be their opening game vs Greece, instead taking on Spain the following day, where they were beaten, 98-51.

Jordan Spencer led GB with 9 points on 4/5 shooting, while Lucas Stivrens and Rowell Graham added 8 points each.

They bounced back the following day, securing an 11 point victory over Belarus.

Jordan Spender once again led GB with 17 points, while Kavell Bigby-Williams added 12 points and 13 rebounds.

“Nice win vs. Belarus to end our preparation phase,” tweeted Coach Leichner after the game. “Team defended at a high level! Tough decisions 2b made regarding final roster.”

The squad has returned to training camp in Essex as Leichner and his staff will be joined by late additions, including Luke Nelson and Alex Young, as they look to determine the final 12 who will be flying out to the Europeans on the 7th of July.
