British Basketball Announces Preparation Games for GB Senior Women

GB’s Senior Women will set in motion their season this weekend, when they enter training camp at the University of Worcester Arena for their 2014 international campaign.

As part of that build-up to their 2nd Qualification Round games for EuroBasket Women 2015, Peter Buckle’s team will face four preparation games in May against top-level opposition.

First, they head to Rome for two games against Italy on Saturday May 17th and Sunday May 18th. The Italians will prove a difficult test, as they may have something to prove after their quarter final defeat to Serbia in EuroBasket Women 2013. This caused them to miss out on a place at the FIBA World Championship later this year. Italy coach Roberto Ricchoni is focussing on youth with the introduction of 18 year-old forward Cecilia Zandalasini the standout selection.

A week later, the team will be back in Worcester for their only home assignments before the EuroBasket qualifiers get underway. They face Germany behind closed doors, in back to back games on Saturday May 24th and Sunday May 25th. While the Germans failed to qualify for France last year, they will be looking to match their achievement of reaching EuroBasket 2011.

GB’s opening qualifier is against Belgium which takes place at the University of Worcester Arena on Sunday June 8th, with a 2pm tip off. Tickets are on general sale for all three home qualifiers against Lithuania and FYR Macedonia and you can purchase them here.
